KENDALL COUNTY, Texas — Kendall County reported no fatalities during the Hill Country floods on July 4, which caused over 100 deaths in neighboring Kerr County.
Kendall County Judge Shane Stolarczyk presented a report to state lawmakers, outlining actions taken before and during the flood event. According to the timeline, county officials activated their emergency plan on July 3, based on weather forecasts and risk assessments.
The county used its WENS Emergency Alert System to issue warnings to residents. Officials also referenced prior efforts to revise floodplain regulations, conduct a Cypress Creek study, and develop a drainage master plan.
Judge Stolarczyk stated that interagency coordination and early warning systems were key components of the county’s emergency response. He urged lawmakers to support preparedness efforts in smaller counties.
