MANILA, Philippines– Local government units (LGUs) affected by the eruption of Mt. Kanlaon in Negros Island are set to receive PHP63 million in additional financial assistance from the Office of the President.

Officials confirmed that the amount has been fully signed and will soon be distributed to the affected areas.

The funding comes as part of the government’s efforts to assist local governments whose resources may be insufficient to handle the aftermath of the volcanic eruption.

Presidential support emphasizes the need for additional resources beyond provincial and local funds to address the emergency effectively.

This financial assistance aims to support recovery and rehabilitation efforts in communities impacted by the volcanic activity.

The Office of the President coordinated with relevant agencies to ensure timely delivery of the funds to the designated LGUs.

LGUs in the vicinity of Mt. Kanlaon experienced significant damage and disruptions due to the eruption.

The allocated funds will aid in addressing immediate needs and restoring essential services in the affected areas.

Community leaders have welcomed the financial support, citing the challenges faced by local governments in managing the crisis.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council continues to monitor the situation and provide necessary guidance.

Affected residents have been evacuated, and temporary shelters have been established for displaced individuals.
