MANILA, Philippines — June Mar Fajardo remained the frontrunner for the Philippine Basketball Association Most Valuable Player award after the Commissioner’s Cup, leading the statistical race through the first two conferences of Season 50.

The San Miguel Beermen star accumulated 29.8 Statistical Points, widening his advantage over Robert Bolick of NLEX Road Warriors, who ranked second with 26.7 points.

Juan Gomez de Liano of Converge FiberXers placed third with 23.6 Statistical Points, followed by Zavier Lucero of Magnolia Hotshots with 23.3 and Converge’s Justine Baltazar with 23.2. RJ Abarrientos of Barangay Ginebra San Miguel ranked sixth with 22.8 points.

Fajardo is seeking a record 10th PBA MVP award after helping San Miguel capture the Philippine Cup championship and earning Best Player of the Conference honors.

Bolick has also been a Best Player of the Conference contender in both tournaments, although NLEX fell short of reaching the semifinals in the Philippine Cup and Commissioner’s Cup.

Meanwhile, Gomez de Liano remains the leading candidate for Rookie of the Year following a strong performance in the All-Filipino conference.

The league will present the MVP and other individual awards during the opening of Season 51. Winners will be determined through a voting system that combines statistics (45%), media votes (30%) and players’ votes (25%).
