Julia Garner, renowned for her role in “Ozark,” has confirmed that she will take on the role of Madonna in an upcoming limited series.

Though details are scarce, Garner mentioned to W Magazine, “I can’t reveal much, but it’s a work in progress,” when asked about portraying the iconic singer. She also expressed her admiration for Madonna by listing some of her favorite tracks such as “Borderline,” “Papa Don’t Preach,” “Burning Up,” “Confessions on a Dance Floor,” “Vogue,” and “Ray of Light.”

Garner elaborated, “I love all of Madonna’s music, but ‘Borderline’ and ‘Papa Don’t Preach’ stand out as favorites. I particularly enjoy the emotional depth of her voice in ‘Papa Don’t Preach.’”

Recently, Garner appeared in “Fantastic Four: First Steps” as Silver Surfer and in the horror film “Weapons.” Despite Universal Pictures previously shelving the biopic in 2023, Deadline reported in May that Garner continued to be attached to the project.

On the SmartLess podcast, Garner mentioned the ongoing development of the biopic and shared insights about her audition, detailing her experience of dancing and singing before Madonna to prove her capabilities. Garner and Madonna have also collaborated on stage during the Celebration Tour in December 2023 and were seen together at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party in March.

The series’ official title remains undisclosed, but it is a joint project between Madonna and Netflix, with Madonna directing and scripting the series. Director-producer Shawn Levy, noted for projects like “Stranger Things” and “Deadpool & Wolverine,” is also contributing to the series.
