JASPER, Texas — Louisiana-Pacific Corp. will indefinitely suspend production at its oriented strand board mill in Jasper starting in October, affecting about 150 workers as the company responds to weak demand.
The company notified the Texas Workforce Commission of the planned cuts in a WARN notice filed Sept. 1. The layoffs will take effect Nov. 1 and will affect 80 production workers, 34 maintenance and electrical workers, 30 salaried or management employees and six technical workers.
None of the affected employees belong to a union.
LP Building Solutions said the Jasper mill has an annual production capacity of about 475 million square feet of OSB on a 3/8-inch basis. OSB serves as an engineered wood panel commonly used for walls, roofs and flooring in home construction.
“Current market conditions require us to align OSB production with demand,” LP CEO Jason Ringblom said.
The company said the decision does not reflect the performance of its Jasper employees and that it could restart the curtailed production when market conditions improve.
Employees will receive 60 days of working notice and/or pay and continued benefits through Nov. 1, according to the WARN filing. Some workers may remain at the facility temporarily to assist with transition work.
LP said it will provide job-search and career-transition assistance and help affected employees apply for positions at other company facilities.
The Jasper shutdown comes amid continued layoffs across Texas. Nearly 30,000 Texas workers faced layoffs during the first half of 2026, according to previously reported WARN data.
