MANILA — Anne Curtis’ sister Jasmine Curtis-Smith and their mother Carmen condemned Quezon City Rep. Bong Suntay after he shared lewd thoughts about the actress during a House impeachment hearing. Suntay cited his “imagination” about seeing Curtis at a mall to defend Vice President Sara Duterte, arguing that mere thoughts are not punishable.
Jasmine called Suntay a “disgusting man” on X, highlighting that his remarks during Women’s Month reduce women “to bodies in spaces dominated by men in power.” She stressed that public officials should elevate discourse, not objectify women, and called for accountability from elected leaders.
Carmen also criticized the lawmaker on Facebook, labeling him a “sick man” and “foul.” The remarks prompted the committee chairman to strike Suntay’s statements from the record.
Suntay later apologized but maintained that his analogy was harmless and meant as a compliment to Curtis. The actress has not publicly responded.
This incident has sparked renewed discussion on sexism in government and the treatment of women in public spaces.
