James Gunn, filmmaker and co-chief of DC Studios, confirmed that his follow-up to the 2025 Superman reboot will be titled Superman: Man of Tomorrow and is scheduled for release in July 2027.

The director made the announcement on social media, sharing Jim Lee’s illustration of Superman and Lex Luthor. He tagged Lee, DC Comics, and the film’s stars David Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult, who are set to reprise their roles as Superman and Lex. The actors later posted their own artwork featuring their characters in battle. Rachel Brosnahan (Lois Lane), Skyler Gisondo (Jimmy Olsen), and Wendell Pierce (Perry White) are also expected to return, along with members of the Justice Gang.

Gunn has clarified that the project won’t be a traditional sequel but will expand on characters introduced in Superman, which recently crossed $600 million at the global box office.

The upcoming film shares its title with a 2020 animated feature, though that project adapted the 2003 Superman: Birthright miniseries and centered on different storylines. DC’s slate will continue with Supergirl next year, Clayface in 2026, and The Batman sequel in October 2027, shortly after Man of Tomorrow hits theaters.

Meanwhile, Gunn’s Peacemaker Season 2, starring John Cena, was recently released to strong reviews.
