HOUSTON, Texas — A Houston mother faces charges after allegedly confining her 7-year-old daughter in a dog cage as punishment for her behavior at school.

Rose Marie Anderson, 33, is charged with injury to a child and unlawful restraint in connection with the incident on Dec. 13 at Anderson’s apartment on Dixie Drive, near Houston’s South Side.

According to court documents, Anderson allegedly zip-tied her daughter, taped her mouth shut, and left her in the cage for several hours without food, water, or access to a bathroom.

The child reportedly urinated on herself during the confinement. Investigators and Child Protective Services (CPS) are conducting separate inquiries into the situation.

CPS has placed the child in foster care, where she is receiving support.

The child’s identity has not been released due to her age.

Anderson remains in custody as she awaits a preliminary court appearance and bail review scheduled for Jan. 6.
