Firefighters in Texas City successfully rescued an injured sea turtle that had become entangled in fishing line near the Texas City Dike.
The turtle, an endangered species, was spotted by visitors who noticed it struggling to swim due to the entanglement and a hook embedded in one of its flippers.
Multiple calls prompted the Texas City Fire Department to respond. Upon arrival, firefighters navigated over large rocks and through shallow waters to reach the turtle. They carefully removed the fishing line and dislodged the hook, then carried the animal to safety.
The turtle was transported to a wildlife recovery center in Galveston, where experts are overseeing its care. Wildlife officials have reported that the turtle is expected to make a full recovery and will eventually be released back into its natural habitat once healed.
