India closed its airspace to Pakistani aircraft on Wednesday, retaliating against Pakistan’s decision to prohibit Indian planes from flying over its territory.
Pakistan imposed the ban on April 24, following escalating tensions between the two countries. India’s move came in the wake of an April 22 attack in Indian-administered Kashmir that resulted in 26 civilian deaths.
India has accused Pakistan of supporting the attack, which Pakistan has denied.
The dispute has led to increased diplomatic tensions, gunfire exchanges in Kashmir, and the expulsion of citizens by both nations. The border between the two countries has also been closed.
The airspace restrictions are the latest in a series of actions taken by both sides as hostilities between the nuclear-armed neighbors continue to rise.
