The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) announced that the northbound upper level of Interstate 35 outside the main lanes in San Antonio will remain closed through the end of September as part of an ongoing infrastructure improvement project.

The closure, which affects a specific section of northbound I-35, is part of a larger multi-year project scheduled for completion in 2026. Crews are currently working on road repairs, lane expansions, and the installation of new safety features to improve traffic flow and roadway safety.

TxDOT stated that the closure is necessary to protect construction workers and drivers while work is underway. Drivers are advised to use detour routes and follow posted signage. Peak-hour traffic delays are expected, and TxDOT has made detour maps and instructions available on its official website.

The I-35 project includes the installation of new pavement, enhanced drainage systems, and upgraded traffic management technologies. The upgrades are designed to handle increased traffic demand and improve overall safety for commuters and travelers.

Traffic safety measures, including cones, barriers, and signage, are in place throughout the construction zone. Law enforcement officers will monitor the area to ensure compliance with traffic regulations.
