KERR COUNTY, Texas — Severe flooding in Texas has resulted in multiple fatalities, including children from North Texas and a member of the Hunt family.
The incident occurred following heavy rainfall on July 4, which caused flash floods along the Guadalupe River.
Authorities confirmed that Janie Hunt, a nine-year-old from Dallas, died during the flooding while attending Camp Mystic, a private summer camp located in Kerr County. The Hunt family has been publicly identified in connection with the fatality.
According to the National Weather Service, the Guadalupe River rose by approximately 26 feet in 45 minutes. The increase in water levels was caused by intense rainfall that led to flash flooding in affected areas, including Kerr County and the Hill Country.
Multiple fatalities have been confirmed, including several campers at Camp Mystic. Authorities are continuing efforts to locate any individuals reported missing and to assess the full extent of the damage.
Shelters were established for displaced residents, and emergency personnel have been providing assistance on site. Damage assessments and recovery efforts are ongoing.
