Hundreds gathered at Discovery Green Park in Houston on Sunday to honor Charlie Kirk, a prominent conservative activist, who was fatally shot last week while speaking at Utah Valley University.

Attendees waved American flags and illuminated the area with cell phone lights. They sang, prayed, and shared memories of Kirk, who founded Turning Point USA, a national youth political organization.

Pastor Richard Vega, of At His Feet ministries, expressed his grief. Kirk, a personal friend and supporter of Vega’s ministry, was remembered for his strong faith.

Vega described Kirk as a dedicated individual with a heart for pastors and the community. Kirk was known as a bold man of faith, a loving father, and a husband who cared deeply about people across the nation.

Jacob Way, founder of Red State Solutions, organized the vigil. He described feeling a divine calling to arrange the event.

Way, who has worked with Turning Point USA for over a decade, highlighted Kirk’s approach to debate. Kirk advocated for healthy discussions with differing viewpoints. Way emphasized the importance of continuing Kirk’s legacy.

James Owen, a supporter at the vigil, spoke of Kirk’s influence on his own life. He credited Kirk with inspiring him to speak publicly about his views.

The event concluded with a collective prayer and song, as attendees held up flags and illuminated the night with cell phone lights. Pastor Vega assured the crowd of their commitment to continue Kirk’s mission.

A memorial service for Charlie Kirk is scheduled for next Sunday in Arizona.
