HOUSTON — Houston rapper Warren Brown, known as Cartel Bo, faces an aggravated kidnapping charge after Harris County deputies conducting a welfare check at a Cypress home found evidence that a woman had allegedly been held captive, court records and law enforcement officials said.

Harris County Precinct 4 deputies responded Sunday to a welfare-check request at a home in the 15000 block of Darby Retreat Lane, Constable Mark Herman told KPRC. Deputies found signs that someone had been confined inside the residence and had fled before they arrived.

Investigators later found the woman nearby and took her to a hospital for treatment, Herman said.

According to court documents, Brown allegedly kidnapped the woman on July 21 and confined her in a closet. The affidavits allege that Brown checked on her about once an hour, sexually assaulted her and prevented her from leaving the home.

Authorities stopped Brown after he left the Cypress residence on July 25 and arrested him on suspicion of aggravated assault involving a family member, according to court records.

The woman told investigators that she met Brown to pick up their 1-year-old son and later arranged an Uber ride. The Uber driver told investigators that he saw the woman run from Brown while carrying the child’s car seat.

The driver said he intervened after Brown allegedly grabbed and assaulted the woman. He also told investigators that Brown struck him in the face and body and threatened to kill him. Authorities filed an additional misdemeanor assault causing bodily injury charge against Brown in connection with the encounter.

Court records show Brown had also faced allegations involving the same woman before the latest case. Authorities detained him in June on accusations of family violence, and prosecutors previously charged him with felony assault involving a family or household member.

Prosecutors filed a motion Tuesday seeking to deny Brown bond pending trial. The court granted the request, and Brown remains without bond pending his next hearing.

Brown’s next hearing is scheduled for Monday. If the court releases him on bond, he would have to wear a GPS monitor.
