HOUSTON — Houston’s 2026 Pride parade will take place Saturday, Aug. 15, after organizers rescheduled the annual event twice this year because of a calendar conflict and severe weather.
Pride Houston 365 originally scheduled the parade and festival for June 6, moving the event earlier than its traditional late-June date to avoid conflicts with seven FIFA World Cup matches scheduled in Houston from June 14 to July 4.
The festival proceeded June 6, but organizers postponed the evening parade because of severe weather and flooding. Organizers later set Aug. 15 as the new parade date after meeting with Houston Mayor John Whitmire’s office.
The free parade will begin at 7 p.m. Saturday at Lamar and Smith streets in downtown Houston. Organizers recommend arriving before the start time, with Smith and Louisiana streets among the recommended viewing areas.
The stage, grandstand and bar will open at 5 p.m.
The parade will travel along Smith Street, turn onto Walker Street, continue along Milam Street and end at Leeland Street.
Heat precautions
The National Weather Service forecasts a high of 98 degrees in Houston Saturday, with a heat index reaching 109 degrees.
Catherine Whitaker, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service’s Houston/Galveston office, urged people attending outdoor events to stay hydrated, seek shade and check on children, older adults and people who are ill.
Pride Houston 365 said it will set up two cooling stations and seven water distribution stations along the parade route.
The organization said it is working with the city, the mayor’s office and the Harris County Precinct 1 Constable’s Office on safety preparations for the event.
