HOUSTON, Texas– Houston Police Department officers shot and killed a man wielding a knife during a suicide attempt at a residence on the 9200 block of West Sam Houston Parkway in Houston, Texas.
The incident occurred just before 6 p.m. on Thursday when three officers arrived at the scene following a report of a man cutting himself and attempting suicide.
Upon arrival, police found the man armed with a knife and attempting to harm himself.
Officers engaged the man in an attempt to de-escalate the situation and persuade him to drop the weapon.
Despite police efforts, the man advanced towards the officers while still wielding the knife.
One officer discharged his firearm, striking the man.
Emergency responders transported the man to a local hospital.
The man was pronounced dead at the hospital due to injuries sustained in the shooting.
Authorities have not yet released the identity of the deceased pending notification of next of kin.
