Houston ISD officials on Thursday released results of the district’s winter 2024 family sentiment survey, which show who responded, what they said about their schools, when and where they submitted feedback, why they expressed concerns about district direction, and how their responses highlighted preparedness as the lowest-rated category.

The district reported that parents and caregivers across Houston ISD completed the winter family sentiment survey online during the current school year.

The survey asked families to rate their satisfaction with their children’s individual schools and with the district’s overall direction.

Houston ISD officials stated that families rated their own schools with overwhelming favorability across most categories.

Parents gave positive ratings on measures such as school climate, communication, and relationships with teachers and campus staff.

Survey data showed that respondents expressed less confidence in the overall direction of the district than in their individual campuses.

The district reported that parents identified preparedness as the lowest-ranking category among all measures in the survey.

Preparedness scores reflected family views on how well Houston ISD schools prepare students for future academic, career, and life opportunities.

Houston ISD officials said they would use the survey findings to help guide planning and decision-making at both the campus and district levels.

Officials stated that they will share key findings with school principals and leadership teams to support campus-based action plans.

The winter family sentiment survey forms part of a recurring series of surveys Houston ISD conducts to track changes in family perceptions over time.

Houston ISD will invite families to participate in future surveys to continue collecting feedback on school quality and district performance.
