The Philippine Consulate General in Houston supported the initiative of the Filipino American National Historical Society Houston Chapter (FANHS-HTX) urging the City of Houston to recognize October as Filipino American History Month.
FANHS-HTX members Dr. Pat Lindsay Catalla-Buscaino, Cybil Pallugna-Saenz, and Anthony Guevarra led a delegation of Filipino community leaders who spoke before Mayor John Whitmire and several council members during a public session of the Houston City Council on October 7 to officially launch the celebration.
Council Members Tiffany Thomas (District F), Edward Pollard (District J), and Mayor Pro Tem Martha Castex-Tatum (District K) expressed their support for the Filipino American community. They acknowledged October as a time to reflect on the history and contributions of Filipinos in Houston and neighboring areas.
The Filipino American National Historical Society has observed Filipino American History Month nationwide since 1992. The 2025 theme, “From Quotas to Communities: Filipino American Migration and Movement,” highlights the growth and resilience of the Filipino diaspora in the United States.
