The Raven Grill in Houston’s Boulevard Oaks neighborhood closed permanently on Sunday after 28 years of operation because its lease was not renewed, drawing customers who lined up before opening to dine there one last time.
The restaurant, located at 1916 Bissonnet St. near Rice Village, opened in 1998. Owners Rob and Sara Cromie, former classmates, launched it as their first concept and later opened additional restaurants and bars in Houston and Austin.
Earlier this month, the Cromies announced the lease would not be renewed, prompting the closure. Their nearby sandwich shop, The Picnic, will remain open.
On Sunday, customers gathered outside before opening and filled the dining room and patio within the first hour of service. Diners ate meals, took photos, and interacted with staff throughout the day.
Comments posted on the restaurant’s announcement reflected customer reactions, with several individuals describing long-term patronage and shared experiences at the establishment.
Staff declined to comment on the final day of service.
