MANILA, Philippines — Members of the House of Representatives expressed strong disapproval of Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa for what they perceive as efforts to derail the ongoing investigation into killings related to the drug war and the operations of Philippine offshore gaming operators (Pogos).

They emphasized that the investigation aims to expose the realities behind the syndicates involved in illegal drugs and the gaming industry. Critics within the House stated that their focus should remain on gathering facts about these syndicates, which they believe are a serious concern for public safety and governance.

Dela Rosa has faced accusations of attempting to obstruct the inquiry, which some lawmakers see as a commitment to uncovering the truth. The representative from Iloilo cited that such investigations serve a crucial role in addressing the impact of these syndicates on society.

Discontent has emerged not just over Dela Rosa’s stance, but also regarding the perceived lack of urgency in addressing issues surrounding drug-related violence and illicit gaming activities. Lawmakers pointed out that any attempts to hinder the investigation could be viewed as protecting vested interests tied to these operations.

The House members underscored the importance of transparent investigations to ensure the accountability of individuals involved in illegal activities. They asserted that the probe must continue without interference, allowing for a thorough examination of the connections between the drug trade, gaming operations, and organized crime.

Recent discussions in Congress have turned attention to how drug-related killings can be linked to larger networks that may be operating beyond the reach of the law. Members argued that the findings of this inquiry could shed light on systemic issues that need to be addressed to protect the Filipino people.

Despite opposition from some quarters, those in favor of the investigation argue that it can lead to actionable change and new policies aimed at safeguarding communities. They believe that keeping the focus on these vital issues should take precedence over political maneuvering or personal agendas.
