MANILA, Philippines — The House of Representatives approved House Bill No. 11376, which proposes a P200 daily increase in the minimum wage, during a plenary session on Tuesday.
A total of 171 lawmakers voted in favor of the bill, while one voted against it, with no abstentions.
The legislation, known as the Wage Hike For Minimum Wage Workers Act, still requires the President’s approval to become law.
If enacted, the bill will allow the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Boards to continue implementing wage increases across the country.
The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) expressed support for the bill, describing the wage hike as a necessary measure to improve workers’ welfare.
If the bill is signed into law, employers will be required to adjust their payroll systems to accommodate the new wage rate. The wage increase is part of a broader package of economic reforms, aimed at addressing inflation and promoting economic recovery.
Labor groups, which have long advocated for higher wages, have praised the bill as a step toward improving the standard of living for Filipino workers.
