MANILA, Philippines — Ischaemic heart disease remained the leading cause of death in the Philippines from January to November 2024, according to data released by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).
The condition accounted for 96,049 deaths, representing 19.3 percent of the total fatalities during the period. Ischaemic heart disease occurs when the arteries supplying blood to the heart become narrowed, restricting blood flow.
Neoplasms, or abnormal tissue growths commonly associated with cancer, were the second leading cause of death. The PSA recorded 55,105 cases attributed to neoplasms, making up 11.1 percent of all deaths.
The PSA continues to monitor and report on mortality trends to support public health planning and policy development.
