PALO PINTO COUNTY, Texas — Texas Gov. Greg Abbott expanded a state disaster declaration this week to include Palo Pinto County following severe storms that struck North Texas and produced multiple tornadoes.
The addition brings the total number of counties under the disaster declaration to four. The other counties previously included are Lamar, Parker, and Wise.
State officials said the storms brought at least five tornadoes to the North Texas region, causing damage across several communities. The National Weather Service confirmed multiple tornado touchdowns from the system earlier in the week.
Abbott said the updated declaration allows state and local agencies to deploy additional emergency resources and assistance to affected areas. He also urged residents to monitor weather conditions, follow guidance from officials, and prepare emergency plans.
Damage assessments remain ongoing as authorities review reports submitted by residents. The Texas Division of Emergency Management is collecting information through its Individual State of Texas Assessment Tool, which residents can use to report storm-related damage when it is safe to do so.
State officials said the collected data will help determine the extent of the damage and guide further response efforts.
