MANILA, Philippines –Veteran actress Gloria Romero has passed away at the age of 91, according to a statement from her family.
Romero’s death marks the end of a career that spanned nearly eight decades in the film and television industry.
The news was first shared by her niece, Lovely Rivero II, on social media, where she posted photographs of Romero and paid tribute to her career. The family has not disclosed the cause of her death and has requested privacy.
Romero was born on December 16, 1933, in Denver, Colorado, USA, and later moved to the Philippines, where she began her acting career in 1950 with her debut film, Ang Bahay sa Lumang Gulod.
She gained recognition for her versatility in a wide range of roles in both film and television. Over the years, Romero worked with leading directors and actors in the industry and received several awards for her performances.
In addition to her on-screen achievements, Romero was known for her professionalism and was respected by her colleagues. She was also recognized for inspiring many aspiring actors in the Philippines.
Following her death, the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) issued a statement honoring Romero’s contributions to Philippine cinema.
