MANILA, Philippines– Rapper Gloc-9 announced on Oct. 5, that he will not write a sequel to his song “Upuan,” despite its resurgence in protests condemning corruption.

Gloc-9 expressed pride that “Upuan,” released in 2010, has become an anthem in anti-corruption demonstrations.

The song criticizes the comfort and privilege of those in power while ordinary citizens face hardship. Its renewed popularity comes amid recent allegations of government corruption.

Gloc-9 explained that he will not create a second part because he believes the song remains relevant and impactful. He emphasized that “Upuan” continues to resonate with listeners and sustain its role in social and political discussions.

The track uses the metaphor of a chair to illustrate the gap between leaders and the people they govern. It has re-emerged in public consciousness as citizens invoke it during protests and discussions about accountability.
