Manila, Philippines — The Gilas Pilipinas Women’s team concluded their participation in the FIBA 3×3 Women’s Series held in Chengdu, China, on Friday, following a challenging pool play stage. Despite a promising effort, the team was unable to advance beyond the initial rounds of the tournament.

The Philippine team commenced their competition with a difficult 21-10 defeat against the Ulaanbaatar Amazons. The Amazons, despite an earlier loss to Bangkok CT in an overtime thriller, managed to secure the top position in Group B by points average. However, the Gilas Women displayed commendable resilience and determination in their subsequent game.

In a spirited comeback, the Filipino squad secured a 21-15 victory over Bangkok CT. Key contributions came from Alexis Pana, who made a significant impact by scoring eight points after sitting out the match against Ulaanbaatar. Mikka Cacho added strength with five points and four rebounds, while Tantoy Ferrer and Kaye Pingol chipped in with four points each.

The team concluded the pool stage with a 1-1 record, ultimately finishing ninth in the 12-team competition. The tournament was dominated by the Netherlands, who swept through their games with a flawless 5-0 record, underscoring their formidable status in the series.

The Chengdu leg is part of the larger FIBA 3×3 Women’s Series, comprising 17 global stops that will conclude with a final event in September. The performance of the Gilas Women in Chengdu adds valuable experience as they continue their journey through the series, aiming to build on their strengths and address areas for improvement in future competitions.
