JEDDAH, Saudi Arabia — Gilas Pilipinas concluded its 2025 FIBA Asia Cup campaign after a quarterfinal loss to Australia, 84–60, on Wednesday at King Abdullah Sports City.

Australia took control early with strong perimeter shooting and defensive execution, setting the tone for a one-sided contest that the Philippines struggled to counter. The Boomers maintained a consistent lead throughout the game, limiting the offensive output of the Filipino squad.

The defeat eliminated the Philippines from the tournament, cutting short their bid to advance to the semifinals. Despite entering the quarterfinals with momentum from earlier wins, Gilas Pilipinas was unable to match Australia’s pace and physicality on both ends of the court.

Philippine coaches and players acknowledged the level of difficulty presented by the Australian team and noted the need for further development to compete against top-tier opponents.

“This experience will serve as a valuable lesson for us,” said a team official. “We remain committed to improving and preparing for future competitions.”

The FIBA Asia Cup served as a critical platform for Gilas Pilipinas to showcase talent and assess international competitiveness. The team now shifts its focus to reviewing performance and preparing for upcoming regional and global tournaments.

Australia’s win secured their place in the semifinals as they continue their pursuit of the Asia Cup title.

With their 2025 campaign concluded, Gilas Pilipinas aims to build on the experience and return stronger in future international appearances.
