MANILA, Philippines — Singer and actress Gigi de Lana revealed that she has been diagnosed with pericarditis, days after fainting during a performance in Samal, Davao del Norte.
De Lana shared the diagnosis during a recent Facebook Live broadcast, explaining that pericarditis causes inflammation of the lining around the heart, which can trigger sudden chest pain or attacks. She assured fans that she is being closely monitored by medical professionals and following their guidance.
Her doctors have allowed her to continue performing, provided she listens to her body and rests when needed. “Music and performing have always been a huge part of my life. Being able to share that with all of you gives me so much strength and joy,” she said.
The fainting incident occurred at the 28th founding anniversary celebration of the Island Garden City of Samal, after de Lana finished her set and appeared dizzy while walking off stage. Marshals assisted her, but she collapsed before fully exiting.
Her management, Tritone Entertainment, initially attributed the incident to “extreme fatigue.” This was not de Lana’s first onstage collapse; she fainted in May 2023 while performing in Paoay, Ilocos Norte.
According to the Mayo Clinic, pericarditis is a swelling and irritation of the thin, sac-like tissue surrounding the heart. Chest pain is the most common symptom, and other effects can include fatigue and general weakness.
