Netflix announced that Filipino actor Gerald Anderson will join Anne Curtis in the upcoming action-thriller series “BuyBust: The Undesirables,” which will continue the story of the 2018 film “BuyBust.”

The series will stream in the Philippines on a date that has not yet been announced.

Netflix Philippines released a surprise teaser for the series on its official social media accounts on a recent Tuesday. The teaser revealed Anderson as part of the cast alongside Curtis, who reprises her role from the original film. Director Erik Matti, who directed the 2018 movie, returns to helm the new series for Netflix.

The teaser also introduced additional cast members, including Sarah Lahbati and other Filipino actors, whose specific roles have not yet been detailed.

During a recent Spotlight press conference, Anderson said the production team did not expect Netflix to release the teaser as early as it did. He said he felt surprised when he saw the teaser online ahead of the originally anticipated promotional schedule, adding that he welcomed the early release because it allowed audiences to see a first look at the series.

Curtis said in earlier interviews that she trained again for action sequences to prepare for her return to the “BuyBust” universe.

Matti said in previous statements that “BuyBust: The Undesirables” will expand the original film’s dystopian depiction of the Philippines through a serialized format.

Netflix said “BuyBust: The Undesirables” will continue the franchise in a new format while retaining the core action-thriller elements of the film.
