SIOUX CITY, Iowa — The late boxer George Foreman has been buried at Logan Park Cemetery in Sioux City, Iowa, city officials confirmed Thursday, a month after his death in Houston at age 76.
Foreman’s family revealed the burial site during a news conference with Sioux City Mayor Bob Scott, who said the grave is marked by a monument featuring an image of Foreman as a teenager following his Olympic gold medal victory.
According to a statement released by Sioux City officials, the family said Foreman visited Sioux City in 1988 and later described feeling a sense of peace in the area. The family said they chose the location after visiting the city again during arrangements following his death on March 21, 2025.
The cemetery sits in northwestern Iowa near the Missouri River and overlooks the Loess Hills region.
Foreman, a native of Texas, won a gold medal at the 1968 Mexico City Olympics before becoming heavyweight champion in 1973 after defeating Joe Frazier. He later lost the title to Muhammad Ali in the 1974 “Rumble in the Jungle.”
He regained the heavyweight championship in 1994 at age 45 by defeating Michael Moorer, becoming the oldest boxer to win the title. Foreman retired in 1997 with a professional record of 76 wins and 5 losses.
After his boxing career, Foreman became a businessman and television pitchman, most notably promoting the George Foreman Grill, which sold more than 100 million units.
