DALLAS FORT WORTH – A senior at North Side High School, signed with Texas Wesleyan University as the first recruit for their inaugural women’s varsity flag football team.

Isabel Ibarro’s signing is seen as an inspiration for other young athletes pursuing similar paths in sports. She received praise from Fort Worth ISD officials.

Ibarro is recognized for her skills and passion for flag football during her high school career.

Texas Wesleyan University, based in Fort Worth, announced the establishment of its women’s varsity flag football program, making it the first of its kind in Texas.

The team will begin competing in the spring of 2026. University officials underscored this advancement as a step forward in collegiate athletics, focusing on expanding opportunities for women in sports.

Keenah Lambert, recently appointed as the head coach for the new team, expressed enthusiasm about leading the program.

Lambert’s appointment was announced earlier this year, and she will lead the team into its first competitive season. Her experience in athletics is expected to bring valuable leadership to the program.

The Dallas Cowboys organization actively supports the expansion of girls’ flag football leagues in North Texas, contributing to its growing popularity.

In recent years, the Dallas Cowboys have partnered with local schools, including those in the Fort Worth Independent School District, to promote and support girls’ flag football.

The Texas Wesleyan flag football program seeks to offer a new avenue for female athletes entering college.

University officials noted that the program will enhance the university’s athletics department and provide an exciting new opportunity for local talents. The program is expected to attract athletes from across Texas and beyond.
