MANILA — Former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte and his two sons are set to run in the country’s senate election in 2025, Vice President Sara Duterte confirmed on Tuesday.
“All of them are eager to run,” Sara Duterte, the current Philippine vice president and daughter of the former president, told reporters just days after resigning from the cabinet of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and another key position. She revealed that former President Rodrigo Duterte, Davao City 1st District Congressman Paolo Duterte, and Davao City Mayor Sebastian Duterte will all seek Senate seats in the upcoming elections.
“Yes, all three Dutertes will run for senator. Yes, that is confirmed,” she stated in an ambush interview in Cagayan De Oro City. She mentioned that she received this information from her mother.
In addition, Vice President Duterte hinted at future political plans, saying, “According to my mother, my youngest brother Baste plans to run for president in 2028. My mother also said that I will return to being the mayor of Davao.”
The national and local elections in May 2025 will include the selection of senators, congressmen, and local chief executives, among other positions.
