The Philippine government has clarified that it has no plans to ban Roblox, choosing instead to push the company for stronger child protection measures amid rising concerns over online sexual abuse and exploitation of children.
On April 7, the Department of Information and Communications Technology and the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center met with Roblox representatives, law enforcement, and private sector groups to discuss enhanced safeguards for young Filipino users.
According to the DICT, Roblox has committed to stricter monitoring and age-appropriate content controls on its platform. The company also plans to launch an information campaign on April 12 to educate parents on safety tools, including parental controls for screen time, spending limits, blocking inappropriate content, and filtering experiences by age rating.
This comes after the CICC gave Roblox 30 days to address concerns that pedophiles and drug traffickers were allegedly using the platform to target minors, warning that failure to act could result in a nationwide block.
