LAGOS, Nigeria — British boxer Anthony Joshua resumed training on Thursday, weeks after a car crash killed two of his close team members on December 29 on a highway linking Lagos and Ibadan.
Joshua was a passenger in a Lexus SUV that collided with a stationary truck. His backroom team members, Latif Ayodele, his personal trainer, and Sina Ghami, his strength and conditioning coach, died at the scene. Joshua sustained minor injuries.
The 36-year-old posted a video on Instagram showing him hitting pads with a trainer, captioning it “Mental Strength Therapy.” Promoter Eddie Hearn said Joshua would be given time to recover physically, mentally, and emotionally before deciding on his boxing future.
The crash occurred while Joshua was on holiday in Nigeria after defeating YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul in Miami on December 19. Hearn said discussions about a potential bout with Tyson Fury are on hold until Joshua is ready.
