PARIS — French actor Pierre Deny, known for his role as Louis de Léon in the Netflix series Emily in Paris, died following complications from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), his daughters said in a statement confirmed by French media. He was 69.
His daughters announced his death in a statement obtained by Agence France-Presse, saying he died Monday after a sudden and severe case of ALS.
Deny appeared in seasons 3 and 4 of Emily in Paris, where he portrayed Louis de Léon, the chief executive of luxury company JVMA and father of Nicolas de Léon, played by Paul Forman.
Forman posted a message on social media expressing condolences and described working with Deny as a privilege. Co-star Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu also paid tribute, describing him as a generous and sensitive actor and noting their time working together in theater.
Deny appeared in more than 100 French film and television productions, including Une femme d’honneur, Julie Lescaut, L’Instit, Joséphine, ange gardien, La Nouvelle Maud, Camping Paradis, and Braquo.
He also appeared in long-running French television series Plus belle la vie and Demain nous appartient, where he had roles spanning more than 500 episodes.
