WASHINGTON, D.C. — Elon Musk appeared at the White House on Friday to formally conclude his role in the Trump administration, departing as head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) while dismissing allegations of drug use related to a visible black eye.

In an Oval Office ceremony, President Donald Trump presented Musk with a golden key to the White House, calling it a symbol of appreciation for Musk’s “incredible service.” Musk, the world’s richest individual, pledged to remain a “friend and advisor” to Trump despite stepping down from his official post.

“You’re really not leaving,” Trump said during the ceremony, alluding to Musk’s continuing influence following a four-month tenure that saw aggressive federal budget cuts and the closure of several government agencies under DOGE.

Musk’s appearance — marked by a black eye that fueled widespread speculation — prompted questions about his health and conduct. Musk directly denied any link to drug use during the event.

The DOGE initiative led by Musk focused on reducing government expenditures, resulting in the layoffs of tens of thousands of federal employees and the shutdown of entire departments.
