MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) prepositioned more than 300,000 family food packs and other relief supplies in the Bicol region on Sunday, May 3, to support residents in Albay affected by ongoing ashfall from Mayon Volcano.
In an advisory issued at 6 a.m., the DSWD reported that it has prepared 301,311 family food packs for distribution in areas impacted by volcanic activity. The agency also positioned 27,322 ready-to-eat food boxes and 15,156 non-food items for possible deployment.
The DSWD Field Office in Bicol released P11.3 million for emergency cash transfers and P28.3 million for its cash-for-work program. The agency said it provided cash-for-work assistance to more than 2,169 farmers affected by previous Mayon Volcano activity.
The agency said it continues to coordinate relief efforts as heavy ashfall affected several towns in Albay following recent volcanic eruptions and pyroclastic density currents from Mayon Volcano.
