MANILA, Philippines — The Pasay Regional Trial Court (RTC) has corrected its earlier order and set bail at P10,000 for former broadcaster Jay Sonza following his arrest on cyberlibel charges, according to a May 2 court order.
The court initially issued a warrant of arrest on April 30 against Sonza after finding probable cause for cyberlibel in connection with allegations that he spread false medical information about President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. The original order classified the offense as non-bailable.
In its subsequent order dated May 2, Pasay RTC Branch 118 amended the classification and fixed bail at P10,000 for Sonza’s provisional liberty.
“Upon closer examination of the warrant of arrest that it issued where it stated that the offense is not bailable, the Court rectifies the same and hereby fixes the amount of bail at Ten Thousand Pesos (Php10,000.00) for the provisional liberty of the accused,” the court said.
The court scheduled Sonza’s arraignment for May 4 at 8:30 a.m.
Sonza was arrested by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on the same day the warrant was issued on April 30. Authorities said the case stemmed from complaints filed against Sonza and vlogger Jeffrey Luces Celiz over alleged dissemination of false medical records involving the President.
