MANILA, Philippines– The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) announced on Nov. 3 a reduction in the prices of several construction materials after uncovering inflated rates that reached up to 75% above market value.
Following a comprehensive review, DPWH investigators found discrepancies between listed and actual market prices of key materials used in infrastructure projects.
DPWH officials assured that the department will implement the new pricing structure immediately and maintain regular monitoring to prevent future overpricing.
According to the department, these measures are intended to enhance transparency and accountability in the procurement process while ensuring efficient use of public funds.
The DPWH expects the price reduction to lead to more cost-effective infrastructure development and foster a fairer, more competitive construction industry.
Officials emphasized that the initiative underscores the department’s commitment to fiscal responsibility, quality infrastructure, and long-term sustainability in public works projects.
