WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump will attend the FIFA World Cup final on July 19 at MetLife Stadium and will help present the trophy to the tournament winner, FIFA President Gianni Infantino confirmed Tuesday.
Infantino announced Trump’s plans during an appearance on Fox & Friends as the World Cup group stage nears its conclusion. The FIFA president said he and Trump will attend the championship match together and participate in the trophy presentation ceremony.
“We will be together with the president enjoying the final and handing the trophy to the winner, of course, together,” Infantino said during the interview.
Trump has not attended a World Cup match during the tournament so far. However, he attended the FIFA Club World Cup final last year at MetLife Stadium, where Chelsea F.C. defeated Paris Saint-Germain to win the title.
The president has remained involved in World Cup-related events and preparations. In December, Infantino presented Trump with the inaugural FIFA Peace Prize during the World Cup team draw at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
FIFA said the award was created to recognize exceptional actions that promote peace and will be presented annually. During the ceremony, Trump described the recognition as one of the greatest honors of his life.
Trump has frequently attended major sporting events, including the Super Bowl, NBA Finals games and other championship contests. While he has yet to attend a World Cup match during the 2026 tournament, Secretary of State Marco Rubio attended the U.S. men’s national team’s opening match against Paraguay in Los Angeles on June 12.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup final is scheduled for July 19 at MetLife Stadium, which is hosting the tournament’s championship match as part of the World Cup jointly staged by the United States, Canada and Mexico.
