MANILA, Philippines– The Department of Justice (DOJ) on Thursday announced an investigation into claims that the remains of 34 missing cockfighting enthusiasts, known as “sabungeros,” were buried in Taal Lake, Batangas.

This lead emerged from a suspect identified only as “Totoy.”

The Philippine National Police had detained Totoy for questioning in connection to the disappearance of the sabungeros.

DOJ Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla confirmed the receipt of the information from competent authorities.

The DOJ is coordinating with local authorities in Batangas to verify the authenticity of the claims. Secretary Remulla assured that all necessary steps are being taken to uncover the truth about the missing individuals.

The DOJ prioritizes this investigation due to its high-profile nature. The DOJ continues to work with law enforcement agencies to gather more evidence and leads in the case.
