Disney has announced plans to build a new theme park in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The new project, Disneyland Abu Dhabi, marks the Walt Disney Company’s first theme park in the Middle East and its seventh globally.

Disney is partnering with Miral, an Abu Dhabi-based developer, to construct the theme park and resort. The development will be located on Yas Island, a popular hub for entertainment and tourism in the UAE.

The park will feature attractions and entertainment experiences unique to Disney. It will incorporate aspects of local Emirati culture, aiming to offer a blend of Disney’s signature experiences with regional influences.

The announcement by Disney and Miral did not specify an opening date for the new park. However, plans for the resort include themed accommodations, dining options, and retail spaces alongside the theme park attractions.

Yas Island currently hosts a range of attractions, including Ferrari World and Yas Waterworld. The addition of a Disney resort is expected to enhance the island’s appeal as a major tourism destination.

Bob Iger, Disney CEO, expressed optimism about the new venture. He highlighted the potential for this park to become a key attraction in the region, drawing on Disney’s extensive history of creating world-class entertainment experiences.

The UAE government has been investing in tourism infrastructure to diversify its economy away from oil dependency.

Disneyland Abu Dhabi’s development follows Disney’s expansion strategy, similar to recent projects in other parts of Asia. The company has opened theme parks in countries like China and Hong Kong, which have proven to be successful ventures.

The announcement adds momentum to Abu Dhabi’s tourism initiatives, which aim to attract millions of visitors annually.
