WASHINGTON — The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has formally requested the deployment of 20,000 National Guard troops to assist with immigration enforcement operations across the United States, a move aimed at supporting deportation efforts within the country’s interior.

Unlike previous deployments at the southern border, the proposed National Guard units would come from various states and would be used for logistics and operational tasks, rather than border security.

If approved, the deployment would increase the involvement of military resources in domestic immigration activities, further expanding enforcement beyond border areas.

The Pentagon is tasked with evaluating the feasibility of the request, which includes assessing the logistical implications and the appropriateness of using National Guard personnel for such operations. A decision on the request is expected after a thorough review of these factors.

DHS officials have stated that the National Guard’s support would enhance the efficiency of immigration operations, providing additional manpower and logistical resources for federal law enforcement agencies tasked with carrying out deportations.
