WASHINGTON — The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has formally requested the deployment of 20,000 National Guard troops to assist with immigration enforcement operations across the United States, a move aimed at supporting deportation efforts within the country’s interior.
Unlike previous deployments at the southern border, the proposed National Guard units would come from various states and would be used for logistics and operational tasks, rather than border security.
If approved, the deployment would increase the involvement of military resources in domestic immigration activities, further expanding enforcement beyond border areas.
