DENTON, Texas – A senior student at Braswell High School under the Denton Independent School District called for the removal of the campus football coach and athletic director during a school board meeting held Tuesday night.
Dustin Sharp, a senior at the school, spoke during the public comment portion of the meeting. He cited what he described as manipulative and demoralizing behavior by the coach and asked the board to consider a leadership change in the athletic department.
Sharp said the current environment does not align with the values expected for student-athletes. He added that the coach’s approach has negatively affected students and the overall atmosphere within the program.
The board did not respond during the meeting, in line with its policy on public comments. The identity of the coach was not disclosed.
Several parents and students attended the session, with some voicing support for Sharp’s remarks. Others did not express a stance or showed support for the current coaching staff.
Braswell High School and district officials did not immediately issue a statement regarding Sharp’s request. A spokesperson for the district said that all public input is taken seriously but declined to comment on specific personnel matters.
Some parents and students have raised concerns about the athletic environment, citing morale and pressure under the current leadership.
The school board is expected to review the concerns in future meetings. Possible next steps include further discussion or an internal review. The district has not confirmed any actions at this time.
District officials reiterated their commitment to a respectful and supportive environment for all students. Further updates may follow pending board evaluation.
