DALLAS — An underground natural gas leak in Dallas’s West End on Tuesday morning prompted road closures and building evacuations.
Dallas Fire-Rescue reported the leak around 9 a.m. near Ross Avenue and North Market Street. A Hazmat team and Atmos Energy crews responded and identified a 6- to 8-inch gas main as the source.
Approximately 300 people were evacuated from four buildings, including two commercial and two residential properties. Several roads near North Market Street were blocked. Atmos Energy has sealed the line, and repair work is ongoing.
Only the area bounded by N. Record Street/Ross Avenue and Corbin Street/N. Market Street remains closed. Fire officials said they are venting the evacuated buildings and will lift evacuations once gas levels are safe.
Dallas Area Rapid Transit service in the West End was suspended during the incident.
