DALLAS — Chris Brown received an honorary doctorate from a Dallas-based private Christian university, marking another headline moment in a year that already includes Grammy nominations and a planned stadium tour with Usher.

Brown announced the recognition on Instagram, writing “I DID A THING!” alongside a photo of the diploma awarded by Harvest Christian University. The school conferred on him an honorary Ph.D. in visual and performing arts, citing his contributions to the music industry.

The university said the award recognizes Brown as one of the most influential R&B artists of the past two decades. He has released multiple commercially successful albums and won Best R&B Album at the Grammys twice, while continuing to headline major global tours.

However, the institution has also drawn scrutiny, with reports noting that it claims a “royal charter accreditation” but is not accredited by any agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

Brown and Usher are scheduled to return to the Dallas–Fort Worth area in September for a series of performances at AT&T Stadium in Arlington.
