DALLAS, TX — Monica Alonzo, a candidate for the District 6 seat on the Dallas City Council, has formally requested a recount following the recent election.

The request comes after Laura Cadena secured 50.43% of the vote, defeating Alonzo, who garnered 25.3%.

The Dallas City Secretary and the Dallas County Elections Department are collaborating to schedule the recount, which was announced on Friday.

The election results initially negated the need for a runoff election, but Alonzo’s request for a recount aims to ensure the accuracy and transparency of the vote tally.

Both candidates and the Dallas community are awaiting the final certified results, which will be determined after the recount is completed.

Election officials are committed to ensuring a fair and accurate recount, in line with electoral regulations, to maintain public confidence in the electoral system.
