MANILA, Philippines– The Sandiganbayan court denied Sen. Jinggoy Estrada’s request to dismiss graft charges, ensuring that his trial for the alleged diversion of over PHP 200 million in pork barrel funds will continue.
The court’s Special Fifth Division rejected Estrada’s demurrer to evidence, stating that prosecutors presented sufficient proof of his involvement.
The charges involve Estrada’s Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF), which was allegedly misappropriated to fictitious projects associated with NGOs managed by Janet Lim-Napoles, a convicted businesswoman.
Estrada faces 11 counts of graft in this case.
He was previously acquitted of plunder charges related to the same issue.
The ongoing case stems from accusations of Estrada receiving kickbacks in coordination with co-accused individuals.
