The Austin City Council has approved the purchase of a $4.3 million property along I-35 near Oltorf for a new homeless navigation center. The measure passed in an 8–3 vote during Thursday’s council session.
The city has not yet designated the organization that will manage the facility. Council members discussed possible operational models and service partnerships during deliberations.
The planned center will offer resources and support for individuals experiencing homelessness, including access to housing assistance, job placement, and mental health services.
City officials described the purchase as part of a broader effort to strengthen Austin’s homelessness response network. They emphasized that the new facility could play a vital role in improving outcomes and connecting people to long-term support.
